We had another busy week in kindergarten! I have added a few links to my blog site. Please look to the left to find a link to our new author study, Leo Lionni. We enjoyed watching the video clip of the author himself explaining his artwork, characters, and messages. Leo Lionni likes to have a lesson taught in each of his books. You will find a list on this link as well as many of them featured on my Library Thing. Also, please note that there are links to all the specials teachers' blogs. Try to visit Mrs. Dunafin's site. Our KP class is featured!
Language Arts: Our letter of the week was R. Our sight words were "am" and "and." We read Oh A-Hunting We Will Go and made a response book of our own with rhyming words. We made rhyme boxes and notices rhymes in our poems this week. We read Let's Make Rabbits by Leo Lionni and created pencil and scissor rabbits. Friday was Sound Book 6 review day. Our sounds were y, x, sh, and th. Other books we read were Red Racer, Tillie and the Wall, Alexander and the Wind Up Mouse, Frederick, and Matthew's Dream.
Math: We did many activities involving number quantity. We also made a rocket and counted down from 10-1. Tens frames help us organize the quantity of numbers up to ten. We played a tens frame game and Rabbit Flash math to produce number quantities to 10. Every Friday we work on a math extended response. The kids are learning about looking at the problem, showing their thinking in a picture, and writing a sentence with which includes labels.
Science: Thank you to everyone who remembered to send a rock to school. We had some who brought a few and were able to share. We studied our rocks with a magnifying glass and made a rock report. It was neat to see the different types of rocks and their characteristics!
Notes: Thank you to everyone who sent in wrapping/wall paper and other supplies on my wish list! I will not be sending out book order forms for October and November. Our May Watts LMC will have a Book Fair around conference time. A good portion of the proceeds will go towards resources for our school. I will be placing an order for December (and I would love to do it in time for them to return before winter break.) Please feel free to place an order any time for any month if you wish.
Have a wonderful weekend!
