April 2-5

I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable spring break with your families!

We had a fun start back to school with a wonderful assembly featuring trick bike competitor Matt Wilhelm.  He spoke to the children about three important topics:  bike safety, bully prevention, and remember to work hard and never give up on your goals and dreams.  He was funny, impressive, and inspirational!

We had an EGGxellent time reading stories and doing activities involving eggs.  We read Chickens Aren't the Only Ones, The Easter Egg Farm, The Egg Book, The Talking Eggs, and more.  Art activities and writing followed many of these books. We saw two interesting videos.  One was about different kinds of eggs and who lays them.  Another was about the process egg painting with author Patricia Polacco.

In math we are practicing writing our own addition and subtraction number problems.  We are focusing on recognizing the key words in the question, determining what math operation we need to do, show our thinking and number sentence, and writing an answer that includes the number, label, and key words.

Our citizenship cool tool this week is reviewing the playground safety rules.  Some of our books included the theme of acceptance.  We discussed that it's okay to be different and not perfect.

For those of you who celebrate Easter, have a happy one!  Everyone have a great long weekend!
