Jan. 24 - 28

It was great seeing all of you at Open House.  I hope you enjoyed the tour with your child and that you have a clearer picture of how your child spends his/her day.

Language Arts:  Our letter of the week was L and our sight word was "we."  We created a four square about animals in winter and listed facts about lions.  We made a snow scene picture and wrote our favorite winter activity.  We added more choices in Writer's Workshop and began our at-home highly decodable spelling checks.

Math:  We enjoyed more games that had us creating addition and subtraction stories.  We made a mitten full of patterns.  We began talking about non-conventional and conventional ways to measure.

Science:  We finished our winter unit.  We read a story about animals in winter and discussed migration, hibernation, gathering and hunting.  We read a fiction and non-fiction book about arctic animals.  We read a non-fiction book about lions and wrote three facts that we recalled.

Notes:  Next Wednesday is Literacy Centers.  We DO have enough volunteers but would love some more parents in the future.  (Feb 16, Mar. 16, Apr. 13, Apr. 27, and May 11)  Please look for two other opportunities to volunteer.  First, a note will come home next week asking for help with our 100 Day Celebration that will take place Tuesday, Feb. 8th  around 2:00.  Specific details to follow.  We also have a Valentine's Day Party on Monday, Feb. 14th.  I have one volunteer (Ms. Reddy-Yampati) but need one more.  Let me know!

Have a great weekend!
