I hope you has a fun three day weekend with your family! I spent time with mine at Delavan Lake in Wisconsin.
Language Arts: Our letter of the week was "s" and the sight word was "can." Practice those popcorn words at home! Our jolly phonics sounds were w, ng, v, and oo. We read books about spiders and we wrote a fact response about spiders. We had fun singing "There's a Spider on the Floor" with our spider rings and we read everyone's page in our class book There's a Spider on Me. We completed our second week of FLEX groups for guided reading. The students could be with a different teacher during this 35 minute time. We work on jolly phonics, blending words, reading strategies and writing. Everyone is doing well with the routine and we will remain in these groups for a few more weeks. We had our first Literacy Center time on Thursday. The kids had a blast as they were led in different language arts and math games by our wonderful parent volunteers. A big thank you to Ms.
Math: We had a math talk with our At The Park page. Positional words were a focus in addition to questions like the examples I sent home on Tuesday. We made a spider number book matching the correct amount of spiders to the number. This book, along with another number board activity were to help students understand the value of number and how the amount increases by one as we count. We learned a fun game called Skyscrapers which is a counting, estimating and comparing game. We learned about the Tricky Teens numbers stressing that teens numbers are a group of 10 plus some more. We played a Listen and Do game showing a teens number flashcard and making a ten frame plus ___ to equal the teen.
Notes: As mentioned in the email link, WE FILLED OUR MARBLE JAR! We will be having a Pajama Day on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18th. Please wear gym shoes that day...we have P.E. They may bring slippers for the classroom.
Also, please have your child bring in a rock by Tuesday, October 16th. It must be no bigger than your child's hand. It would be great if there was something interesting about its shape color or texture. Please send it in a labeled bag.
Have a great weekend!
