Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break! It was GREAT to see the kids again. The short week was a great way to ease back into our school routine.
Language Arts: The letter of the week was F and the sight word was "she." We read non-fiction and fiction books about frogs. We discussed the difference between the two types of books and did an activity focusing on fiction and non-fiction. We wrote a four square about frogs. We continue to make wonderful things during Writer's Workshop.
Math: We learned a new game called VersaTiles that gives us the opportunity to practice patterns, number sense, sorting and classifying and shapes. They are so much fun and will be a part of our centers next week.
Science: We read and saw a few video clips about frogs. We learned about the life cycle of frogs. We recalled facts that we had read about in our non-fiction books and wrote a four square (three facts and a feeling statement) about frogs. Next week during Writer's Workshop, the kids will have an opportunity to write a non-fiction piece about frogs.
Notes: On the 19th, we will begin Literacy Centers. The students will rotate in small groups through centers that are parent led. I have four parents signed up for the 19th @ 1:15: Mr. Marron, Mrs. Parrilli, Ms. Platt, and Mrs. Sathianarayanan. We need one more parent for Literacy Centers. Please let me know if you are interested. Volunteers, please come 5 or 10 minutes early so I can explain your center to you. We will be finished not later than 2:00. THANK YOU!
Yearbook order forms were passed out to those who did not order pictures. This is the last chance to order if you are interested.
A random language survey was passed out to a handful of students. If you received one yesterday, please read. Thank you for your participation.
Have a great weekend!
